  1. "Ojou-sama." A cool voice creeps from the shadows.

    ffxiv_09072022_133815_162.thumb.png.9a4e76edbfb91244518632c04bfbd2f8.png

A sudden series of feelings overwhelm Niri, the recognition of the voice, the wonder of why here in Ul'dah, and the surprise of being so utterly unaware until now.

She turns around and sees an inconspicuously dressed Auri woman, but behind the veiled face were the cool piercing eyes of the Yonagi Clan's chief shinobi... and Niri's childhood idol... Shino Kuyami.

    ffxiv_09072022_134113_811.thumb.png.8c3f32a78a5ee4c6789766f4cbbaa9c9.png

"Touma-dono wished to know how his daughters have been progressing. I have been watching you for some time... were you... unaware?" her voice filled with a sadistic joy, Niri could imagine the twisted grin beneath the veil.

"I...I cannot deny I was... but then you are a master shinobi Shino-sama..." Niri relaxes her face, trying to suppress her emotions of shock, joy, and embarrassment.

"Ojou-sama and Amai-ojou have found a diverse group of allies, some with more dubious background than others..." the Auri woman flatly stated.

Flashes of images fill Niri's mind, fear of what her father's approval (or lack thereof) could mean for the Yonagi sister's adventures.

"Shino-sama, surely you have seen they are of no threat to Amai-ojou, I am ever her stalwart blade." Niri pressed a hand to her chest as her determination radiated from her being.

"Hmph. I wonder...." the shinobi stepped closer, eyes cutting through any facade Niri attempted to hide behind.

A decade ago when Niri was but an acolyte of the Yonagi style of bushido, the young miqo'te was constantly in awe of this cool, mature Auri woman, who despite being young herself commanded great respect within the Yonagi Clan, having risen to the rank of master shinobi at the age of only 21. Niri would spend much of her free time stalking the shadows, clumsily following after Shino who slowly grew to accept the outsider as a member of the household. While Niri was never a student of the shinobi arts, Shino taught her much of subterfuge and people in the efforts of expanding Niri's abilities to protect the Lady Amai. Over the years Niri had grown a girlish devotion to her role model, wishing to serve her father as faithfully as the Au Ra woman had always.

"I...I daresay that we are doing well here. It was hard at first for Amai-ojou... having the scales we so carefully placed removed from her eyes... but twas needed for she is the heir to the Clan afterall...." Niri forced her courage to not abandon her as she continued, "Despite having some emotional struggles she has grown... and is carrying herself in a manner that would honor Touma-dono."

"Yes, I would... agree." Shino replied must to the Miqo'te's surprise.

From above the soft flap of wings could be heard.

"But what of your growth ojou-sama? I can see how your aether twitches, as if this land is a burden on your soul." the shinobi pointed out towards Niri.

    ffxiv_09072022_134218_043.thumb.png.21cdb12a29bfbeb1a92cb6d628271d20.png

    ffxiv_09072022_134250_476.thumb.png.5943b2e4a9c1d19c21d55dfc86d2afaf.png

"Tis... tis not that." Niri muttered, trying to explain. "I have taken the path of the makai samurai... known in these lands as a Dark Knight."

"I see, so ojou-sama wishes to cater to the pains of her past? Such emotions can be blinding..." Shino scolded.

"Y-yes, mayhaps that is the truth of it in some cases... but Shino-sama I... I have connected to a part of myself long dormant! Being in these lands awoken something inside of me, a pain... an ache... something I cannot describe and this path I have taken is how I can keep from falling into that abyss... by mastering that pain and using it as a weapon instead. Did you not teach me that emotions are tools to be wielded, afterall?"

"Ha." The Au Ra laughed dryly. "I have seen how you wield this weapon... and I suppose I cannot disapprove completely. However I much doubt Touma-dono would say the same..."

"Father would understand more than you think... after all having lost Haruna-sama-"

"Careful ojou... speak not of what you could not know." Shino snapped coldly, but then relented. "Putting that aside, I shall report positive progress to Touma-dono, since that... is what I have seen."

Niri could no longer suppress her smile, the woman beamed at Shino, "I am proud to serve, Shino-sama. I have just found a path that befits me well."

"So you say..." The shinobi then whistled softly.

From above the caw of a hawk could be heard as the predator bird descended and landed softly upon Shino's outstretched arm.

    ffxiv_09072022_135107_438.thumb.png.be449b8a13f45de26c8ce73b305d265a.png

"A gift, ojou-sama." Shino spoke, her eyes giving away no detail of her inner thoughts, "Often hawks such as these are used as companions for shinobi to deliver messages and scout for dangers. We believe it would be wise to entrust such a tool to you for the sake of Amai-ojou."

"I...see." Niri quizzically looked into the bird's eyes.

"Come, I shall teach you how to properly give him commands." Shino's voice soften, filling Niri's heart near bursting.

The hawk flew up and perched upon Niri's pauldron, as Shino began walking towards the city's gate. Niri slowly followed as she gently stroked the hawk's plumage with a knuckle.

  3. Upon arriving back at Tiller's Rest, Thirsty Boar tasked the party with submitting a worker request packet to Summerford Farms, which the party happily delivered as it saved them from having to construct the ranch themselves. Upon returning from Summerford the party came upon Junior Guild Administrator Didi Mididi, who was heading to Tiller's Rest to check on their progress. Didi told the party of a 'mysterious' occurrence out of nearby Seasong Grotto and asked the party to look into it. The party arrived to find what appeared to be the remains of a ritual sight as well as a tarnished heardlry shield. They took the shield to the Blacksmith's Guild for restorations and learned it was forged by legendary blacksmith, Gregor Ivoryhold. With this knowledge in mind they were able to narrow the list of possible owners and soon discovered it belong to the Hyldmoore family, a Highlander family with strong ties to the area and the sea. Heading to the Aftcastle the party discovered that Captain Hyldmoore departed out to sea that very morning, but were able to return the shield to his daughter one Lieutenant Hyldmoore who realized the ritual it was found in was a old sea blessing for luck as her father was preparing to raid the Garlean occupied coasts of Bozja, which his daughter raced off to prevent in order to save his life. With the shield returned the party headed back to Tiller's Rest and informed a very relieved Didi about the events.

From there Thirsty told the party of some issues with beastkin in the nearby fields and sent them out to hunt them down. The party however came upon a Lalafellian hunter who seemed to have singlehandledly slain a pack of wolves. After a short conversation the man told the party it was likely the wolves were pushed into this territory by a larger threat to the North, which the party went to check out and found themselves face to face with a wounded grizzly bear! After the encounter the party made their way back to the hunter, where Rinh deftly assisted the man with a bath by tripping him off the Descent and into the river below.

Thirsty's next task was for the party to deliever a writ of purchase for the lumber needed to built the ranchhouse, which sent our party to Gridania's Carpenter's Guild. While Niri handled the initial delivery she soon discovered it would be delayed due to a 'developing situation'. Upon telling the others the group decided to try and help out, in exchange for additional payment by the Carpenter's Guild. It turned out a Morbol had been found in the Guild's harvesting site and needed to be dealt with. After quite the aromatic duel the party was successful and returned to the Carpenter's Guild to inform them of the success.

Heading back to Tiller's Rest the group recieved their last task from Thirsty, to deliver some La Noscean oranges to the nearby settlement by the De Neville checkpoint. The party discovered they were the farming community that had the heated exchanged with the leathered travelers from their excursion to get a source of drinking water, and explained to the village elder their missing cattle was likely due to the rogue bear they had found. After helping to forge bounds between De Neville and Tiller's Rest the party concluded their leve and reported in to Didi to finalize the report.

  4. This will serve as a collection of undertakings that Dread Samurai Niri Yonagi partakes in, it may involve others from time to time but overall will deal with her exercising her brand of Justice on the wicked across Eorzea.

    ***************************************************************

While patrolling around Pearl Lane in Ul’dah, Niri overheard a pair of young parents bemoaning the death of their child. The boy was kidnapped and held for ransom against the pair, but unfortunately their luck had diminished and they could not afford the ransom. The kidnappers sent back the boy’s eyes…

    ffxiv_07192022_144526_941.thumb.png.0a6ffe5436bc90be2cbbb9bf1535be48.png

Niri’s sense of Justice took over, and she approached the parents, wishing to know what they could tell about the kidnappers. Apparently a group out of the Sepulchre in Southern Thanalan had been behind a series of murders, robberies, and kidnappings of late. Niri had heard warnings of this area from the Immortal Flames, but knew she could not stand by idly. She departed for Little Ala Mhigo to try and learn more…

Upon arriving in Little Ala Mhigo Niri questioned some of the Brass Blades stationed out that way and learned that the Corpse Brigade is the largest threat in the area of the Sepulchre. A large gang of refugees that turned to deplorable banditry over the years. When looking for a specific target she learned that there have been smaller groups of late working under the Brigade and it is possible one such cell could be behind the kidnapping and murder of the boy.

Needing to know more Niri heading out towards the Sepulchre to conduct some reconnaissance.

Heading towards the ruins of the Temple of Qarn, Niri made camp for the evening, wanting to continue under the cover of darkness.

    ffxiv_07192022_155842_878.thumb.png.f7b18b1413160e179bf3c6fd2c8dc417.png

Donning her gear she headed out from her camp…

As Niri scouted the outside of the Sepulchre she realized how extensively dug in this Corpse Bridage was, realizing it would be nigh impossible for her to infiltrate deeply into their encampment. So instead she decided to wait for a patrol to head out in which she could ambush…

    ffxiv_07192022_160159_343.thumb.png.64736bbdbc4b15364509f0ebb42bdba2.png

Eventually spotting a trio leaving the encampment, Niri stalked them for some time until she found a moment to come upon them, demanding answers. The trio attacked without hesitation and Niri slew two of them, leaving the last alive for answers.

    ffxiv_07192022_161714_887.thumb.png.aa526c781278c94f3d66da85c8d5de88.pngffxiv_07192022_162642_250.thumb.png.0efd682874f4ea5aeb14ff655d34ad4e.pngffxiv_07192022_162808_799.thumb.png.d43f5b9440511535db4d0728519744f2.png

Having disarmed the last of them she began interrogating, desiring to know about any recent ransoms involving children that lost their eyes.

The brigand tried to resist at first until Niri began cutting away at his fingers, eventually resulting in the name of a group that he thought was responsible… The Goat Skull Group.

Niri, being able to get little more from the man finished him off and returned to Little Ala Mhigo…

    To be continued!!!

  5. The party takes the next step in their quest, heading to Thanalan to acquire a source of stone for Tiller's Rest. Heading to Nanawa Mines, north of Black Brush Station the party mingle with the miners there trying to find out who in charge can help coordinate a transaction. Using the Maelstrom provided writs of purchase the deal is made to send a shipment of stone in a few days time. The party spends that time working on preparing the fields back at Tiller's Rest before recieving word to meet at Vesper Bay to escort the shipment back across the sea. Once the party sets sail they are attacked by a trio of Sahagin raiders, which they dispatch after a short engagement ending in Nox being knocked from the top deck and into the water below, losing his scythe in the process. Niri and Aria dive in after the boy and manage to keep him from drowning as the others call for the sailors to toss over a lifeline. The hempen ladder lands down and the trio in the water make it to the base, where then Garris using his massive size pull them and the ladder back up effortlessly. As the recover on the deck they go to dry off and wait for the ship to arrive in port at Vylbrand. From there the party makes the trip back to Tiller's Rest where Thirsty Boar eagerly awaited them.

  6. Niri slogged around the realm, collecting the items she needed. She acquired a umbrally aspected lightning crystal from deep within the Slyphlands, managing a lucky exchange of work for the crystal, carefully convincing some tempered Slyphs to trade. Her next crystal was easier to obtain, having recently concluded some buisness saving the city of Hyrstmill, Nini was given an umbrally aspected wind crystal from Miah Molkot, leader of the White Rams a local group of militia fighters who often combat the local Ixal. From there Niri traveled to La Noscea, where she pursued a coeurl panther that had been hunting loggers in the upper forests, after a tense engagement Nini managed to slew the beast and take its heart. With these items she then headed back to the Tweleveswood, under the shadow of Baelsar's Wall she cut the palm of her hand and added the final portion needed for the ritual.

The ritual items resonated with her Dark Arts, creating a shadowy simulacrum of Niri who immediately drew her own blade upon the woman. The pair were of course well matched, but the shadow possessed unparalleled potential with the Dark Arts, being forged of them, the shade taunted Niri, attempting to break her morale but after a fierce fight Niri managed to overcome and claim victory over her own inner darkness... the shade then crystalized and shattered, leaving behind a gem that would be forged at the heart of her Abyssal Armor...

    ffxiv_05202022_161116_115.thumb.png.3254ceb57e83f2def9110cf3b802a92f.png

Niri was forced to confront her deepest emotions, and overcome her insecurities made real.

  7. The party made contact in Summerford Farms with their client, called Thirsty Boar. a Roegadyn Maelstrom veteran who the party will be assisting in creating a new ranch called Tiller's Rest, for other able boded veterans to start anew upon. The first order of business was to find a source of clean water, in which the party went down The Descent to search for water sprites. On the way they stumbled upon a confrontation between two groups, a band of local farmers and a party of leather clad travelers. It seemed the farmers were accusing the travelers of being behind a recent string of bandit raids, to which the travelers denied outright. The party managed to break the tension without any real resolution for now. They went on their way and managed to get the water sprite cores needed to purify a well that Thirsty was digging back at the ranch. As they made their way back they encountered the leader of the travelers by himself, seemingly sunbathing upon a rock not far from the Tiller's Rest. The party had a tense questioning of the elezen man, but nothing came of it. Eventually they carried on to find Thirsty having finished prepare what will become the well. The party has secured a source of fresh water for Tiller's Rest!

  8. This will serve as an account for a series of side adventures taken in the background of the guild story.

Taking place following the end of Chapter One.

    ***************************************************************************************************************************************

The dread samurai Niri Yonagi sets out on her next trial, to collect the materials needed to perform the rites to attune her dark arts to a set of abyssal armor of her own, the ceremonial armor of a dark knight. To complete this task Niri must collect the following items:

Two umbral aspected elemental crystals, for this Niri decided to go with Wind and Lightning.

The heart of a proud beast, for this Niri decided upon a coeurl panther.

A cup of her own blood, to be applied at the end via a ritual.

Having a clear idea of her goals Niri set out to the eastern Shroud, having heard rumors of a Sylph encampment that often does trade with forestborn travelers. Stopping in at the Hawthorne Hut, Niri talks to a local levemete for advice, and learns that the Sylphs often accept gifts of value to open trade relations. With this Niri set out and collected a sack of gnat eggs, rumored to be a Sylph delicacy of sorts.

    ffxiv_04172022_194550_883.thumb.png.d2019de92a92eb27193286c4bfe39ddd.png

In the process of, of course Niri encountered some resistance... that had to be dealt with.

Gift in hand, Niri then made her way to the Sylph encampment of Little Solace, in which she was stopped at the edge of the area by a curious Sylph. Niri explained her intentions to trade and offered the gift, then was convinced that a gift was just part of the usual ritual of friend making...

    ffxiv_04172022_194932_449.thumb.png.768346759f83e145823f8a376bc915e6.png

After sharing with the Sylph a performance of a traditional Hingan dance, Niri was permitted in and soon found a Elezen trader to ask for advice on how to approach the subject of her particular task. A brief conversation lead to Niri learning the Sylphs of Little Solace had little in the way of crystals, which disappointed Niri to some end. Hope was not lost however, as the Sylph from earlier came flying in to share with their new friend the 'brooding one'. Niri enjoyed a sweet fruit with the Sylph and mustered the courage to be open with her goals, in which her new friend explained how deeper in the Sylphlands the 'twisted ones' should have what she seeks, but twould be ill advised to venture in for it alone.

So with that advice in mind Niri retreated back to the Hawthorne Hut to call in to her comrades for support...

The party made their way there next, asking around after Bokoko, once she was located in an alley behind town, in which she was taking inventory, the party attempted to convince her to come with them back to Ul'dah for questioning. Showing hesitation, due to the suddenness Bokoko resisted citing her duty to her post. Lady Amai then attempted to take her by force causing a bit of commotion that was soon settled by the boy's calmer demeanor. Unfortunately the commotion aroused some still loyal to Ryen Moor and the party had to fight their way out of the alley. The party overpowered the foes and captured them alive. During the fight Koko Bokoko join in with the party having decided to trust in the group's accounting of events around Moor. Following a trip back to Ul'dah for questioning Koko informed the group of a safehouse Moor uses in Northern Thalanan, an old mining site. The party arrived there after to find it seemingly empty. We discovered an underground passage that held captured refugees, there was also a box of crystals with a false bottom containing a girl being readied for trafficking. Before we could extract the refugees Ryen Moor arrived and a battle ensued. After a long engagement, with the remainder of the trafficking group arriving to assist, the party secured victory and managed to take the survivors into custody and escorted the refugees back to Ul'dah. In Moor's possesion was found an envelope containing directions for the intended shipment of crystals and the girl Zidel.

He recently organized a job faire in Horizon so the party headed there to try and catch his trail. Upon arrive they found the city on high alert as a Cyclops suddenly and mysteriously appeared and began attacking the town. The party quickly offered to assist and slew the Cyclops without any injuries to themselves. Having earned the gratitude of the town they next learned U'boha was heard to be in the vicinity of the Lost Hope refugee camp in central Thanalan. From there the party managed to track him down and get him to agree to assisting them by offer to escort a refugee convoy from Ul'dah to The Golden Bazaar, hoping to be able to reverse ambush the trafficking ring along the way. The party is now awaiting this convoy to depart in the coming days.

Order of the Twin Adders Report

Order of Action: Adventurer Niri Yonagi contracted by the Order of the Twin Adders, upon approval of request petition from said adventure to the Seedseer Council. Adventurer Yonagi is to begin investigating the connection between the {REDACTED SEE FOOTNOTE} and occurrences of voidsent attacks throughout the Twelveswood. To show affiliation Adventurer Yonagi has been bestowed a blue painted lacquered mask adorned with a lapis lazuli gem to signify her working at the behest of the Seedseer Council.

Investigation Log: I headed out from Gridania and into the Central Shroud, making my way to Bentbranch Meadows. I stopped at the Bannock to see what local Adder personnel had to say about local activities, they made mention of some fuss at the chocobo ranch so I made my way there. I came across a merchant attempting to purchase a chocobo, and upon ensuring local customs were being respected I learned the merchant had arrived via a small boat that docked at the Mirror Planks and had noticed what they described as 'unsavory' individuals amongst the other passengers.

Next making way to the Mirror Planks dock, I asked local fishers for any information they had on local distrubances, where I was told of last night there being bright lights or arcane nature flashing out near the Lilystone, heading there I came across a camp where a very intoxicated midlander man told me he had been enjoying an evening with a visiting thaumaturge  friend who had gotten too passionate explaining his studies. As I examined the area myself, I felt an odd sensation before being attacked by a passing seabird. With nothing else out of the ordinary I returned to Gridania to attempt to find better clues.

Investigation Status: No connecting leads, nothing out of the ordinary around Bentbranch Meadows.

    footnote:

    Spoiler

The investigation approved by the Seedseer Council to hunt leads after the presumed dead Padjal Kai-A-Tira, last seen in the South Shroud leaving with three masked and robed individuals. Adventurer Yonagi insisted, for several days, that she be allowed to assist in the investigation taking on a short term contract with the Order of the Twin Adders.

((This will be an on-going log, not technically a side leve and not counting with other levequests.)

    Adventurers' Guild Internal Report

    Esteemed Overseer Council,

We have recently been made aware of several developments around the border region of The Black Shroud and Thanalan, following the rescue of a enslaved Viera boy, local Adventurers came across a trafficking ring near Highbridge. The party managed to capture one who has been thoroughly interrogated by one K'rin Sahdin, of B-Rank. What we have discovered is that this cell is just one part of a larger ring operating throughout Thanalan that exports enslaved refugees across the three sibling continents. We are to believe they have some higher backer, likely within the Garlean Empire. We shall take further notice of any levequest requests pertaining to missing individuals and continue to monitor the situation.

Furthermore, accounts of mysterious robed and masked indivudals have been increasing of late, as well as their association with a prevalent amount of voidsent encounters. C-Rank Adventurers will be incentivized to look further into these reports and we will send further update once we have more information on the ground.

May we always walk under the light of the Crystal,

    Malik Sharr

The party entered the station settlement and began collecting information from local merchants as well as Brass Blades. The party made an arrangement with a potionpeddler to harvest some Desert Kisses to brew an Antling repellent ointment.
