I also really appreciate the magic system. Another aspect of the magic system that appeals to me is the different degrees of "prowess" from rural witchcraft (Ged's Aunt), unrefined sorcery (Jasper's fate according to Vetch), and formal wizardry (Ged).
My experience with the book this time was largely affected by the Audible audiobook narration. The book was read by Rob Inglis. I was already familiar with him from his reading of The Hobbit and LotR. Tolkien's Middle-Earth has many pastoral scenes full of fields and woods and "people of the land". Inglis's narration of Earthsea evoked many of the same images, particularly in Gont and Iffish. Despite this, Earthsea still felt diverse, unique, and independent of other fantasy works which only adds to my love of Le Guin.
It was a great read.
