  1. You wake up alone in the fields, unsure of who you are or how you got here. Looking up to the night sky, however, a familiar constellation calls to you, the stars you were once born under. May those stars guide you in your new life...

Your birth sign is  The Apprentice | Sun's Height / July | Scribe, Tailoring

  2. Character Name: Sails-With-Fishes

    Race: Argonian

    Gender: Female

    Age: 20s?

    Birth Sign:

    Occupation: Ex-pirate

    Gear:

Has a cutlass, a bow and arrows, and a couple back-up daggers. Her outfit can vary a bit on her mood, much of it either being scavenged from dead bodies (hey they’re not using it anymore) or leftovers from her share of the plunder. Unless she’s dressing up for an occasion, she’s likely wearing a couple necklaces of strung bones of unclear origin, including one which prominently features a bird skull, and has a couple more small animal skulls and other bones and feathers hanging from her belt.

    Commonly carried items (incomplete):

Various bones, small animal skulls, and other animal parts (it’s unclear if any of the bones are humanoid)

A couple larger bones that have been elaborately carved

Leather pouch filled with even more small bones

A large scrap that some might recognize as a death shroud

A few trinkets that were likely of value to the dead corpses she retrieved them from

Sewing kit (a few needles, thread, small scissors, etc)

Scraps of cloth and leather strips

Elaborately carved knife made of bone

A gravestake she's been slowly inscribing for herself

A couple necromancy tomes she found during a pirate raid

    Flaws:

Bounty / The mostly-Argonian pirate crew she used to sail with primarily operated along the eastern coast of Tamriel. While Argonian ports were ultimately indifferent to the crew as they’d gladly aid in returning captured slaves and relics they recovered, she has managed to collect bounties in all the ports along the Morrowind coastline.

Dark Secret / She was a member of the Veeskhleel when she was young (Ghost People Tribe in Murkmire). While they’re not well-known outside of Murkmire, they still have a very dark reputation that would be troublesome for anyone familiar (particularly Argonians from that part of the world or anyone who's studied into Argonian or Murkmire lore at all), so she keeps this part of her history to herself.

Intolerance / She actively dislikes Dunmer as a general rule, and treats all of them with the suspicion they clearly deserve. Don’t expect her to bother helping any Dummer who haven’t somehow managed to convince her otherwise.

Missing Eye / She’s completely blind in her left eye.

Twisted Upbringing / Necromancy and other death-related arts are just a normal way of life to her, and she sees nothing morally wrong with it. She does have an awareness that most people think otherwise and is can be respectful of that, but she’d still see that as either silly superstition or a needless fear of death.

Necrophile / She has what most would consider an unnatural obsession with the dead. She carries around various bones and animal bits, and is very comfortable around dead bodies. Most of her weaponry is also at least partially constructed out of bone.

Anachronism / She will typically want to treat dead bodies to the rituals she learned growing up. She'll harvest corpses for any useful body parts such as bones and scales before laying the bodies she doesn't need of any sentient races directly on the earth, if not actually burying them, to aid them in their path in the afterlife. That said, she's also liable to desecrate the corpses of those she doesn't deem worthy of respect, such as Dunmer or those who've committed vile acts.

Decrepitude / Born into the Veeskhleel, her scales appear unnaturally pale and sickly, and can make her appearance disturbing to some. Because of this, even those unfamiliar with the Veeskhleel might feel unsettled by her.

Brutally Honest / She doesn’t have much of a filter and will often just say whatever’s on her mind. She’s very much a “say it how it is” sort of person.

    Gender: Female

    Occupation: Freelancer, thief

    Gear:

She wears either cheap commoner clothes or worn leather gear depending on the occasion. She also wears a pair of sheathed daggers, and various other knives and daggers for backup.

    Commonly carried items:

    Lockpicking tools

Any loose odds and ends she’s “acquired” recently

    Whetstone for her daggers

    Points Used: 21/31

    Points Available: 10

    Flaws:

Catspaw | One of Kiza’s repeat clients in Leyawiin was a paranoid member of the local nobility who had a lot of shady business going on, some of which would ruin him if it became public. He always seemed pleased with her work, but she couldn’t help noticing that most other people who’d done delicate work for him had eventually gone missing or been permanently injured by random “accidents.” She got her siblings safely out of town before eventually leaving the region herself. She seems to be out of his sights for now, but she worries it’s only a matter of time before he decides she’s yet another liability.

Lost Loved One | Her father seemingly disappeared one night when she was only ten, leaving her mother struggling to make enough to feed her children. Kiza began to take to the streets, scavenging food and gold through stealing and pickpocketing to help her mother out. At age 17, she lost her mother to illness, and found herself solely responsible for five younger siblings. Out of desperation, and with no better options, she dove deeper into the Leyawiin criminal underworld in an attempt to keep her siblings cared for. She’s never seen or heard from her father since his disappearance, and while she never learned what actually happened to him, she assumes he simply chose to abandon his family, and currently has no interest in looking for him.

Uneducated | She took to the streets from a young age, sneaking and stealing to help keep her family fed, so there was little time or money available for a proper education. She did manage to learn how to read and write at some point, but she’ll probably struggle a bit with anything beyond simple texts, and hasn’t otherwise had any kind of book learning.

Poor | She never had much growing up and used to rely on thievery and deception for everything she owned and to feed her siblings. She’s mostly been doing “freelance work” and various odd jobs since leaving Leyawiin, and is barely managing to cover the basics at this point.

Phobia (Mild) | She has a fear of heights, especially if it’s high enough that falling would definitely hurt. She might climb high up if she absolutely has to, but it’ll likely require a lot of encouragement to keep her going.

    Flaws:

Ex-Slave | She was born and raised in Vvardenfell, sold at a young age to a healer in Sadrith Mora who raised her to be his assistant in his later years. He left her with some physical scars, and while she's able to keep them hidden under her clothing easily enough, they're unpleasant reminders of a childhood in slavery. Since her escape, she goes by the name Heals-While-Jumping, a name once secretly given to her by Nulaz-Ei, a fellow Argonian slave who was like a brother to her.

Submissive | Growing up, she was conditioned to be compliant and subservient to others, and prompt obedience was the best way to keep herself safe. Even after several years of freedom, she finds it difficult to stand up for herself, and finding herself in opposition to others can make her deeply uncomfortable.

Illiterate | The ability to read and write wasn’t deemed to be necessary by her master in Vvardenfell, and learning as an adult wasn’t exactly a priority in the small farming settlement she later found herself in. She uses her drawing skills to make up for this when she can, including the use of symbols and diagrams in her alchemical and medicinal notes.

Soft-Hearted | She’s a healer at heart, and doesn't want anyone else to have to suffer as she and her brother once did. She wishes to aid those who suffer around her, and feels guilt whenever she’s unable to help someone. Being the direct cause of suffering to another person is unthinkable to her. While she usually has difficulty standing up to others, she sometimes finds herself able to make an exception in defense of others, or against people who have caused much suffering themselves.

Lost Loved One | Her master owned another slave, an Argonian boy about 9 years older than her, named Nulaz-Ei. They grew to see each other as siblings, and she loved him dearly as a big brother. He tried to pass on what little he knew of the traditional Argonian culture, and fiercely protected her when he could. She even got the name she uses now from him, a name he chose to remind her to never let anyone take the joy of healing from her. When she was a young teen, he attacked a client who’d been harassing her; this got the offending Dunmer to back off, but left Nulaz-Ei in fear for his life. She helped him escape by providing a much-needed distraction, promising to come after him someday. She still prays for his safety and longs to be reunited with him.

Intolerance | Past experience has taught her that Dunmer are typically not good people. She might be respectful to their face and heal them if needed, but she’ll always default to distrusting any Dunmer she meets, and has no qualms about stealing from or otherwise taking advantage of them since they probably deserve it anyway.

Inept | Being hatched in Solstheim means she lacks the connection to the Hist that most Argonians have. While she’s learned to be perceptive with most people, her lack of connection to the Hist typically leads to some difficulty in interacting with most Argonians. She often struggles to read their non-verbal communication or pick up various social cues, and in turn they’re likely to misread her or just generally find her behavior strange.

    Number of Flaws: 7

    Backstory:

Heals-While-Jumping grew up a slave in Vvardenfell, and belonged to an elderly Dunmer healer for nearly as long as she can remember. He also owned a male Argonian slave who was about 9 years older than her, named Nulaz-Ei, who was like a brother to her. Her master used her primarily as an assistant of sorts, often having her do the more tedious aspects of his work. She watched him closely to glean what healing and alchemical knowledge she could, and while she was never taught to read, she would regularly sneak into his library to copy various medical diagrams and illustrations to study later.

She and Nulaz-Ei developed a strong sibling bond together, with Nulaz-Ei becoming protective of her as his little sister. Early on he secretly named her Zepaahta-Kei, which he said roughly translates to Heals-While-Jumping, and he regularly called her by this name whenever they were alone. Eventually, his protective nature toward her landed him in trouble with the law, leading him to run away with her help to avoid severe consequences. Her distraction meant she was unable to join him, but she promised she would find a way to follow someday.

Several years later, her master became ill, and one night she took advantage of his state to gather a few necessities and what money she could and ran away, taking the first ship she could find off of Vvardenfell. At this time, she publicly adopted the name Heals-While-Jumping, discarding her old name as an unwanted relic of her time in slavery.

Landing in Windhelm, she soon found herself in a small farming community near Nimalten in The Rift where she was taken in by a local healer, an elderly follower of Mara named Iliana. She lived there happily for several years, learning more of the healing arts and eventually coming to see Iliana as her mother figure as well as her mentor. Heals-While-Jumping also inherited Iliana’s love of Mara during this time. After several years with Iliana, she left Skyrim with Iliana’s blessing in search of places to serve as a traveling healer, and also in the hope of finding Nulaz-Ei.

Occupation: Mage’s Guild member / Dwemer historian / Aspiring author

Gear: She wears mage’s robes which incorporate various dwemer parts and armor she’s found during past delves into dwemer ruins. She also wears a makeshift prosthetic arm on her left side she made from a dwemer animunculi arm from her collection, though this isn’t immediately apparent as she regularly wears long sleeves and gloves to obscure it. Most of the items she carries with her are contained in a cross-body satchel hanging on her right side.

Bag: Soul gems, a notebook and writing implements, a random assortment of small Dwemer odds and ends (small gears, tiny artifacts, that sort of thing), a book or two, likely related to the Dwemer.

    Character Flaws:

Missing Limb | Due to an unfortunate encounter with a dwemer trap a couple years ago, her left arm was cut off just below the shoulder. She tends to wear a make-shift prosthetic arm scavenged from a deactivated dwemer animunculi, more to help avoid stares and for the feeling of having a limb there than for any functional reason.

Driving Goal | Ever since the first time she cracked open a tome on the Dwemer, she’s been obsessed with learning more about their wondrous feats technology. She made them her main focus of study, regularly going on solo delves into various Dwemer ruins throughout Tamriel. Since losing her arm, she’s focused her obsession into a desire to find the technology to create a fully functional prosthesis, and will go out of her way to step closer to that goal.

Arrow to the Knee | She used to regularly explore various dwemer ruins before her injury, but since then, she’s restricted herself to books and enchantment work with the mage’s guild. She’s still able to wield magic or a sword (granted not simultaneously), but at least for now, she considers it too dangerous to continue her expeditions.

Clumsy | She’s never been particularly graceful, which might be part of why she always felt more comfortable studying books and magic than she was learning to use a sword.

Low Self-Image | She grew up with a father who wanted her to be an artist with the sword, and a perfectionist mother with impossible standards, leaving her with the feeling she could never be good enough. When she left to join the Mage’s Guild to pursue her fascination with magic, she was determined to finally prove herself; she threw herself into her studies and explored dwemer ruins by herself, partially just to prove to herself that she could. Her growing confidence shattered when her last delve ended in disaster, in her eyes proving how inept she was all along. She continues to work on improving herself, but sincerely doubts that she’ll ever be as good as others might want.
