    Character Name: Speaks-With-Rats
    Race: Argonian
    Gender:
    Female

    Age: 27
    Occupation: Trader/Hunter/Looter/Tracker

    Gear:
Normally wears a sturdy dress. Also has some light-weight armor in the form of a tunic and pants. A single pair of nice shoes. Footwraps that are more commonly worn. Has a single staff that works as both a weapon and a walking stick. She also has a bow and set of arrows but prefers to avoid using them for battle.

    Commonly carried items:

Things one would expect to have if you rarely spent time in cities and roughed it more often than not. Like a rolled up mat for sleeping, a cup and a bowl along with a spoon and knife. A surprising number of lockpicks for someone who “doesn’t break the law”. Also a large selection of dried meat. For snacking.

    Skills:

    Combat:
    1. Illusion | Adept | 2
    2. Archery | Novice | 1

    3. Alteration | Novice | 0 (racial)

    Non-Combat:
    1. Lock Picking | Adept | 1 (racial)
    2. Nature Survival | Master | 3

    3. Beast Mastery | Master | 3

    4. Tracking | Master | 3

    5. Riding | Novice | 1

    6. Stealth | Adept | 1 (racial)

    Points Used: 15
    Points Available: 15

    Flaws:
    1. Speech Impediment / Speaks-With-Rats got her name because she speaks with rats. Literally. As a young argonian she spent great deal of time with the rodents rather than other argonians. When stressed she will revert back to speaking like a rat-squeaks and hissing overriding her speech.
    2. Hard of Hearing / She wasn’t always hard of hearing but in her early teens she noticed that it was harder to hear things and it’s only been getting worse since then. Nothing caused it, it just happened.
    3. Short / She’s short. Always has been. Possibly had a stunted growth but she doesn’t talk about her childhood enough to know.

    Number of Flaws:
    3

    Companions:

Atooli: Riding Guar. He is not, unfortunately, trained for combat and also has a bad habit of getting stuck in undergrowth.

Siltch: A gray-furred skeever with surprising manners and soft fur. He keeps an eye out for Speaks-With-Rats. Or rather, an ear. A hearing-skeever if you would.

    Biography:

    (Under Construction)

Speaks-With-Rats was born in the Black Marsh and grew up there. While being far from their Hist may bother some argonians, it seems to give Speaks-With-Rats little grief. She was never very close to her hatch-mates, or any other argonian in her tribe, but she also wasn't entirely separated from them. Even her egg was smaller than the others in her group and she continued the trend all the way into adulthood. Despite the attempts of adults, she often slipped away from the Hist Tree in her youth, though never very far from the safety of the village. Far enough to discover the little furred animals that eventually resulted in her name. While she may not have formed close connections with her own species, she was perfectly content to spend her days with mice, rats, skeevers, and really any small rodent.

By the time she she was fifteen she had decided to leave the Black Marsh. Though still young, she felt invincible as many youth do, and even though she had begun noticing some problems with her hearing she had kept that to herself. She faced little trouble leaving, for if she had a hard time forming connections with her tribe, they had a similar problem with her. It was tough at first, but Speaks-With-Rats was lucky enough to come across a bosmer who taught her much of what she knows. Melar (he had never given his surname) was a surly mer, but he was good at what he did. Speaks-With-Rats never did quite understand why he took her under his wing, but for the first time she had felt a connection with someone who wasn't a rodent.

When Speaks-With-Rats was twenty-two when Melar died. It was an entirely stupid and unfitting death for her mentor, and one she still has really accepted. It just isn't right that a single misstep could lead to his death. Instead of a proper death he fell out of a tree, hitting his head on the way down. Speaks-With-Rats did her best to assist him, but they were far from any help and within a day he had passed. Speaks-With-Rats withdrew from society at that point, remaining in the wilderness for three years. It was during this time that she befriended Siltch, rescuing him as a baby and raising him on her own. He seemed to pick up on her difficulty hearing and began alerting her to things with nudges or wrapping his tail around her ankle or wrist and tugging in the direction of the sound.

Eventually Speaks-With-Rats returned, somewhat, to society. Instead of finding passing merchants when she needed something she began traveling to small villages to trade. She still hated large cities, and tried to avoid them if she could, but taking on tracking or hunting jobs was a nice way to get things she couldn't make or get herself. Like nice clothing, rather than the frightening attempts she had made herself. Coin was also useful in that she was able to make another purchase-that of her guar, Atooli.

The tessellated guar can't be said to be smart, exactly, but he reminded Speaks-With-Rats of days spent with Melar training beasts and participating in friendly races. Atooli wasn't the cream of the crop, but he was a steady, dependable mount. As long as you were riding him anyways. Left to his own devices he'd get himself tangled in all sorts of things. He also wasn't good for combat, being absolutely oblivious to danger to himself.

Still, Atooli provided that last boost she needed to get back into society. She didn't know what had driven Melar to be a part of the world, and she really wasn't sure what made her want to do more than live in a hut in the middle of nowhere with her two animal companions. Maybe it was just that she wanted to make another connection like she had with Melar. Maybe that was all Melar had wanted.

It was rather too much to think about, and Speaks-With-Rats didn't like being that introspective. Whenever her thoughts turned to such matters she tended to go find a drink. Or two. Or three.

  2. Ah, @ZEE88 you are sneaky. "I hear it is pretty awesome" and here you are! So you know it really is! Haha.

Super excited that there is a book club though. Books are awesome.

I'm actually not reading anything just this moment. But only because I just finished a book. It's called "The Outsorcerer's Apprentice" by Tim Holt. It is delightful. Not a heavy read so if you want something fun and light to read, I definitely recommend it. I'm going to get his other books too because I had way too much fun reading this one. I finished it in two days, and that's reading it at work between calls, so not much time at all!

Oh man, the description of the Night Angel seems so familiar! I think I've read part of it. I should look into reading it.
