@QuietlyExisting, your reframing of a thief's role is exactly what I needed. My job is to free up other players who would be better used elsewhere.

@Lim and @Paradox, I try to stay mobile and have gotten better about not full-capping. It's more of me thinking "I know I need to go somewhere, but where's the best choice?" I like the suggestions to stall other players, giving my team a better opportunity at the team fight.

Sounds like I need to get better at dueling. That's probably another area of improvement - I don't go into fights with a lot of confidence. I used to button-mash, and am getting a little better at timing. Plenty of players are predictable in that, about 0.5 seconds after a dodge, they try to do something, so I usually time a headshot (my thief is p/d) and interrupt whatever they're doing. BUT, that's the extent of my gamesmanship.

Would love to team up sometime and learn a bit!

First off, the guides several of you have posted are super helpful! Jawgeous is a great YouTuber/streamer, and his is a great video for this topic. BUT, I'm still having issues quickly reading the mini-map and making good decisions on where I should be. 

I main a thief and know I should be decapping and +1-ing to help snowball. Unfortunately, knowing and doing are two differet things. I get tunnel vision too quickly in each match.

Any tips on how to better (or more quickly) read the mini-map? 

A couple ideas I may try is to stop trying to read what classes are where. Just count blue vs. red and go where I'm effective. The other idea is to play an easier class (is Warrior 'easier'?) and practice reading the map with a less active class.

Would love to hear any thoughts from veterans!

@Maxxilen Definitely down to duo some spvp. I main a thief and am....okay. I started this season super late and only just finished my 10 games and ranked mid-silver tier.

A year or two ago, I finished mid-Gold tier, but am super rusty and often my fingers get confused in the fast-pace of pvp. I'd love to have a partner in crime though!

I was just about to post something like this before I read the thread. I'm down to play some spvp and learn together. I main a thief (these days), but have been dabbling in Rev, War, and Necro.
