I'll be returning from out of town on Sunday, so I might not make it, but if I'm home early enough, I'm going to try to join.

The problem with bringing it to GW2 is that it won't be as lucrative as it was in GW1, meaning the tournaments won't be as competitive in an 'e-sports' sense, which is one of the main things ANet wanted to do with PvP in transition to GW2 but it flopped.
They could mount a campaign to revive interest in it I guess, but 8 years into the life of GW2 I have a feeling that it wouldn't be super successful.
That being said, other Cantha based forms of PvP are on the horizon with Alliance Battles, although how much they will be Canthan themed is yet to be determined-- I'm guessing little to none since Alliance Battles were announced and planned before the new expansion.

I'm not sure if it's ANet confirmed or just Woodenpotatoes speculation, but WP did a video awhile ago talking about GW1's PvP and he mentioned that ANet either was-- or probably was-- afraid of including so many modes of PvP in GW2 because PvP in general is already a smaller game mode, and adding so many different modes thins out the PvP crowd.
I can see where there's some truth to this (we see this in PvE, although not as dramatically as many claim), but I would argue that PvP might not be so small if it was more engaging and offered more.
That being said, I'm not a PvPer in GW2 but I was pretty big on it in GW1. My favorite was Alliance Battles and Fort Aspenwood/Jade Quarry. I think that if GvG were to make a comeback in GW2 that we could really put together something great.

Metabattle is pretty good for gear!
I'm not sure there is a more comprehensive site with information currently.

I think Twilight Oasis is probably my favorite. I also like the mechanics of a few others, like Swampland and Snowblind. Cliffside is pretty fun too.

I seem to play Witch more than anything :x, I've been playing a Bane Occultist for Heist with linked curses and a Soulrend totem. Whatever Bane doesn't insta wipe, Soulrend cleans up afterwards.
I've also taken a Saboteur, Deadeye, and Elementalist to reds, and then I have a host of other characters who are somewhere in the 2nd half of story world that I don't play as much. Honestly I'm hard pressed to pick an ACTUAL favorite, because there's so much versatility across all classes. I definitely play Witch builds the most though.
