The best way to test a build for pvp based is to go to the free arena in PvP kit a class and see how it fairs (since you can literally buy the absolute cheapest white rarity gear for pvp as it scales regardless because amulet.). For WvW specifically, it's learning what the current 'meta' is for zergs and building against it... repeatedly... all the time, like it never ends.

AS far as gear goes, exotics fine, unless your in a hardcore group that demands the % uptick to ascended/legendary, plus socketing infusions such as +5% to healing or +5% to power, as those infusions also transfer from wvw to PvE as well for upscale (if thats your thing)

For builds that are usually sure fire so you don't have to break the bank, avoid MetaBattle like a plague as they're usually late outdated builds. Snowcrows builds are usually pretty solid across the board on dependability. For WvW specific builds there's a few of us that have logged most of our game career in Gw2 in the mode, so we're more than happy to help design builds and trait specs/skills to have you stomping 1v3's with ease.

Also P.s. the sub forum is currently pretty dry as we've only recently pivoted into renewing interest in WvW here... so expect it to slowly get better.

    What lim said.

We love to help with builds and ideas so hit us up anytime.

Myself and Lim live in WvW and SpvpWell used to), so we can try to offer any help we can. If you have guardian questions @Hrom is the most knowledgeable in that area.

Man the statement about exotic gear is exactly what i need to hear, bless up. I definitely realized that metabattle is pretty crummy early on, definitely a good starting point for returning players who wants to get into things thorugh pve, but a lot of the builds just doesn't work out. Do you have any insight on the situation I've provided about conflicting Spec's trait? What defines a good build, for people going into solo queues

and yeah I've noticed this subforum is dead dry, that's i thought this post was going to be lost, so i forgot to check up on it. Sorry for the late response lol.

So. From what I was taught you can use exotics just fine in WvW, most suggest the minimum is exotic gear when you're heading into WvW. You can get some of these for karma so you don't have to 'break the bank' so to speak. That being say I am not much of a crafter when it comes to builds. I don't know much about theory crafting, though I am learning and would like to do it in the future when I do know more.

Our Mist department ( @funBox @Lim @Kaii) as well as @Godricknow a lot about WvW.
Also @MeRBdoes a lot of theory crafting, in a way. So they all might know more.

Oh hell yeah, that's let's get ittttt, learning to develop builds is a demonstration of understanding of the game

  3. Hey guys, I'm trying to keep the forum organizing by posting in relevant sub forums, but tbh, this sub forum is looking a little dry so I don't know if I'll get many discussions in this.

The reason for this post is I wanted to make an educational discussion for me and other members, and a platform for me to referenced back to when I'm trying relearn something.

After pvping for a while using online builds, and personal builds, I'm finding that the game mechanic is not very well explained. I enjoy creating my own builds and back testing it along with other people's builds, but what gets me every time is the approach at developing these builds? Is there an efficient way of developing build and back testing it without burning through your gold and or resources?

From my discussion with other group of players, it seems that the difference between WvW and PvP is that within WvW, specifically in small groups rather than solo roaming or zergs, burst nukes are more reliable than damage over time builds. a theoretical example of the two build would be bursting people down through max crit and vuln., vs eating through their boons and heals with condis, and skills then give them all you got with what ever skills are off cd. However, experiments like this are pretty tough to prove given both game modes (pvp and wvw) are hard to replicate each other's build. as a result you would invest your gold into potentially garbage builds that worked in paper and PVE, but aren't too applicable in real wvw scenarios. Along that, I'm not understanding how the game mechanics differed between pvp and wvw which brings me into my next question.

How does the game mechanic differ between pvp and wvw? Stats on your equipped gear doesn't matter in the pvp mode, so what kind of stats are applied to your character in a pvp match? If theorectically speaking, pvp game mode max all stats, giving it an average 10k value across the board, how would you a validate a build you developed in pvp, onto wvw?

lastly, and this point of the discussion is what drives me insane. What is with this game's tooltip for the character's build tab?

I'm finding that there are a few instances where the specializations aren't working as stated in the tooltips, and often it's hidden mechanic that you got to wiki up, or there is just no explanation for it. An example of this is within the strength specialization,  "Building Momentum" where the description states "Bursts skills restore endurance on hit (Endurance Gained: 15", noted that "Burst" skills are explicitly stated in the tool tip of that skill. When using my burst skill, I'm noticing that it's not even returning the 15 endurance that it's implying. There is also the case of strength spec- Restorative Strength not applying might boon when using Dolyak signet, which is a healing skill, what is up with this?

So TLDR: Tool tips aren't descriptive enough to be helpful, and there a more efficient way of developing WvW builds without gambling your gold way, since PVP and WvW game modes differ in game mechanics (right?)?

If exotic gear can realistically play against decked out ascended gears, then disregard this post entirely, and let me know.

Thank you guys for your time, discussions are greatly appreciated!

P.S, are Build Specs linked to weapons? Why is GS not  affected by  Arms and SpellBreaker specs??
