Hi all! Been chatting with @Simralin, and To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini is our first selection of the revived RoH book group! We're thinking we'll read for a few weeks, then ping to see where people are since it is a fairly long book. I loved the Eragon series that he wrote as a very young author, so I'm curious to see how his writing has changed as an adult! Enjoy!

I think a sci-fi / fantasy focus makes sense for us.
For the survey, how about Ancillary Justice, by Ann Leckie?Paolini’s new book is also on my to-read list. Hail Mary was great, and I’d be glad to have a group to discuss it!

Hi Koro,
In ESO there are no actual spears, although some cosmetic-only motifs (especially staves) look like spears. Weapon choice somewhat dictates role; only tanks typically use shields. Any one-handed weapon in combination with a shield plays pretty much the same. Your options are: sword, dagger, axe, and mace.
Hope that helps!
Sorry, not sure why this post showed up in my feed!

Has anyone read any LitRPG? I discovered this new genre recently. Wikipedia defines it as "a literary genre combining the conventions of RPGs with science-fiction and fantasy novels. Games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story and visible RPG statistics (for example strength, intelligence, damage) are a significant part of the reading experience. This is in contrast to GameLit, which involves game-like worlds but does not typically provide visible statistics. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel may understand that they are playing a game or are in a game-like world: they are 'meta-aware'. "
Examples: Awaken Online by Travis Bagwell; The Land: Founding by Aleron Kong
If you have read any, what did you think? Have you found any authors you liked? The ones I've read are a bit like testosterone-laced candy.

Backstory (I'll flesh this out and post it separately):
Bastard child of a minor noble Altmer and an Nord peasant woman. My father rejected us and my mother died when I was only 9. After that I lived on the streets, and joined a gang of ruffians in training. Tried to rob the old, famous Breton bard Serilla Greenheart, who caught me and took me on as an apprentice when she realized I had a tremendous aptitude for illusion magic. Now that my master has died, I'm on my own but am quickly making a name for myself as a performer due to my unparalleled storytelling performances enhanced by illusion.

Points Used: 25
Points Available: 6 (+1 from flaws)
Flaws:
Flirtatious/Lustful | I'm a constant flirt, always looking around for the most beautiful person in the inn to take back to my room for the night.
Idealist | I have a soft spot for the poor and downtrodden, often giving away food or money, because I know what is to go hungry. I have a corresponding mild disdain for the nobility.
Lost Loved One | Losing my mother and being rejected by my father has made long-term relationships, even friendships, difficult for me. It's hard to believe someone really wants me around, and my confidence suffers.
Driving Goal | I'm obsessed with aging and terrified of losing my good looks. I must discover some de-aging or immortality magic.
Vain | I'm unusually preoccupied with my physical appearance. I love beautiful clothes and must always be clean and sweet-smelling.
(For your custom description, write a sentence or so about how the flaw relates to your character. Do not the default description!)
Number of Flaws: 5

Sol is the one that wants to learn from my character, presumably to use music to summon his Shehai weapon? It's a soul weapon, right? Cool!
