  1. A good run! The first boss wasn't much trouble at all and we definitely have the upstairs mechanic down, as well as the tank mechanic with the shades... we got really close, with our best attempt being 27%! Once we manage the extra centurion adds, I think we're golden... and then we only have three more bosses! Should be a snap, right?

Immediately noticeable improvements over last run:

    • We got the first boss down on our third pull. Last run we burned them on our sixth.
    • More consistently nailing the upstairs mechanic and the shade mechanic, which led to...
    • ...our best attempt was 27%! Last run... 78%. That's amazing!

We made some progress last time as we nailed down the first tough mechanic of the second boss just in time for me to murder everyone with the next tricky mechanic! We cancelled last week because, uh... we wanted to lull the fabricants into a sense of complacency so that THIS week will be smooth sailin'! Right?

    uh huh yes GIF

    Requirements

-Read this post and /sign the thread, indicating you agree to this event's guidelines-

The Morrowind Chapter of ESO, as the trial is in Vvardenfell

    Appropriate food/drink and potions

Full sets of purple/gold gear (Two 5-piece + monster set or intentional partial sets)

Raid Notifier and Team Formation add-ons

    For DPS:

CP 810 or a 25K DPS parse 3 mil dummy (available at @PWiddy's primary residence)

    18K+ health with food/drink buff

Take a screenshot of your dummy parse and get in touch with @Icy or @PWiddy

    For healers:

    CP 810

The Energy Orb morph of Necrotic Orb

A purge ability that can purge the group & Purge Tracker add-on

    18K+ health with food/drink buff

At least a couple of set options available (including monster sets)

e.g. Olorime, Sanctuary, Mending, IA, Worm Cult, Jorvuld, etc.

    For tanks:

    CP 810

    A purge ability

At least one crusher enchanted weapon (preferably 2H, bow, staff in infused)

At least a couple of set options available (including monster sets)

e.g. Ebon, Alkosh, Torug's Pact, Plague Doctor, Yolnahkriin, etc.

    Also!

    • As this is one of the more challenging trials, the requirements are on the more stringent side. Being less than CP 810 severely impacts one's ability to survive in content like vHoF... this has nothing to do with skill and instead has to do with the passive damage mitigation a player gets from CP. That said...
    • If you do not meet the CP 810 or DPS requirement, feel free to sign up anyway! We will prioritize those who meet the CP/DPS requirements but we may need some fills!
    • If you sign up as a support role, we'll likely be reaching out to you in order to coordinate the sets the tanks and healers will be wearing for maximum effect
    • Ideally, there should be one magicka templar DPS running Kagrenac's Hope in order to get off some quick rezzes (which we will most likely need). If this is a role you can fill, definitely let us know!
    • If you have any questions about DPS requirements, contact @PWiddy or @Icy
    • Questions about healing requirements should be directed to @Telana
    • Reach out to @orbitoclast with any questions about tanking requirements
    • Roster will be posted Friday night

Sign up below with your role(s) and your planned gear sets!

If you're DPS, please include if you're ranged or melee and stamina or magicka.

Our second run at the third time being a charm, LET'S DO THIS!

We made some progress last week as we nailed down the first tough mechanic of the second boss. Nonetheless, we found ourselves stymied by the true villain of ESO: disconnects... and probably more pee breaks than was strictly necessary, but that's neither here nor there. 😛 Fingers crossed for better luck this week!

Hooray! Really, a fantastic effort everyone! The roster was as posted above, with the exception of @Arcadian stepping in for Savvy, who was having some lag issues.

  10. DEATH by DAYLIGHT

-a weekly three-hour descent into progressive madness-

An unofficial event, every Saturday at 2:00 PM EST

Hello, fellow seekers of misery, chaos, and glory! The time has come for Remnants of Hope to go forth and make its mark on the most difficult group content that ESO has to offer: veteran trials, their hard modes, and their myriad achievements! HUZZAH!

Death by Daylight is an event for those of us dedicated to conquering all that ESO has to offer with the folks we like to hang out with instead of whoever happens to be in our raid guild. Why go outside of RoH to complete events when we have the people, talent, and dedication right here?

How is this event going to work?

    • This is an UNOFFICIAL event. As such, we will be respecting the PvE department's event schedule. We will not run trials that are an ongoing effort in official events; for example, if an official event is focused on completing vAA HM, we will not be running vAA. If you are interested in that trial, you should sign up for the official event!
    • We're going to be tackling some of the most difficult content in ESO, some of which is literally impossible without meeting certain requirements. In light of this, events may have restrictions such as a minimum CP level, a certain level of DPS on a dummy parse, and/or gear or skill requirements for support roles. If requested to wear certain gear, please wear it. Same goes for specifically requested skills. Still, please bring along any gear sets you think would be beneficial! If we hit a wall with the current strategy, your gear or skill suggestion might be just what we need!
    • Something that makes this event unique is that we are going to be diving into encounter logs to assess our techniques and progress as a group in an effort to continually better our performance. After the event, the organizers (myself, @Telana@PWiddy, and @Arcadian) will discuss our strategies and our performance as a group. We will be posting our thoughts in the forum. Feel free to contribute -- we're a team, after all! We may be reaching out to people personally if there's something specific we want to address. If you have any questions or concerns about the raid, please feel free to contact us.
    • If you sign up for a Death by Daylight event, you are agreeing to set yourself to NOT appear anonymously on the encounter log, have the encounter logs from the trial posted in the ESO Progression forum, AND to participate in performance critique.
    • Progression content can be frustrating. In fact, it's likely we won't clear most weeks... and that's okay! We'll be among friends and we'll work on it as a team. A positive attitude from all participants is expected; it is absolutely crucial to the success of this event and that of the team -- it is what will carry us through many a crushing defeat.
    • In the interest of making the most of everyone's time, if you are late for the event, will we seek a replacement. If you show up before we've found one, you're more than welcome to join us.
    • These guidelines were conceived with a team-first mindset. Failure to follow the guidelines may result in not being invited on future runs.
    • A post will be made in the forums regarding the upcoming week's event that will include expectations and restrictions for that particular trial. Check it out, update the progression raid spreadsheet with your availability and stats by TUESDAY at 11:59pm EST as per Telana's post, and keep an eye on the forums for that week's roster, which should be up on Wednesday.

When you're ready to die by daylight with your favorite guild, just "/sign" below to acknowledge that you've read and agree to follow the guidelines and LET'S DO THIS.

    See you Saturday!

  11. Friends!

What are we thinking about for next Saturday's run after our decisive vSO HM victory?

As this is an unofficial event, I would like to avoid any trials currently being pursued by official events, especially while we have so many other options! As such, MoL, CR, and AA are off the table.

Additionally, in the interest of this event being specifically designed to tackle prog content: as we're moving into more difficult content, expect there to be CP level requirements, or, in lieu of that, dummy parses for DPS and gear checks for support roles. This is not to be exclusionary, but is instead an acknowledgment that some content is simply impossible without meeting a certain bar.

    CHOOSE!:

-Vet Hel Ra Citadel Hard Mode: Supposed to be the most difficult of the Craglorn HMs.

-Vet Asylum Sanctorium +0 or +1: Never beaten by RoH during an official event. It's a mini-trial involving three bosses.

-Vet Halls of Fabrication: One of ESO's ultimate challenges... I think this would truly test our mettle and see where we are as a group.

Look up some strat guides, look at the gear/builds required for your preferred roles, and make your choice by Thursday!

  13. Corane X

    coraness.thumb.png.fa5b366293af60b1c50be12453a6c46a.png

    Race: Altmer

    Gender: Female

    Age: 85

Birth Sign: The Mage | Rain's Hand / April | Scholar, Enchanting

    Occupation: Researcher, Dwemerologist

Gear: Light armor (jerkin), destruction staff

Commonly carried items: A small toolkit, an eye loupe, a journal, some writing implements, at least one book -- usually several on enchantment and Dwemerology.

    ---

She took a step back from the workbench and removed the loupe from her eye, absently placing it in her pocket. She closed her eyes and rubbed them slowly, waiting a moment before reopening them. Squinting, she looked from the schematic she had hung on the wall and then back to the workbench. The brass humanoid she had reconstructed glinted in the warm light of her workshop -- it looked identical to the figure in the aged schematic. Everything in its right place, she thought.

Corane was unimpressed; getting it to look right was the easy part… would it actually work? She leaned against the wall, staring at the figure on the workbench, her heart quickening slightly with adrenaline. If she had failed, these were her last moments of having something to look forward to, something to work for. Something to fill the vast emptiness, quelling the echoes and insulating whatever was left.

She took a tentative step forward, her eyes fixed on the humanoid. This is it, she thought. This is it. This is it… this is… Her hand was on the switch, tucked smartly into the joint between the shoulder and chest plate -- had it been a human, it would have been just above the collarbone. She savored the feel of the warm brass under her fingers for a moment before she sighed quietly, bowed her head, and flipped the switch.

Immediately, the machine spun to life. Steam poured out of every crevice of its gleaming body as it sat bolt upright on the table. Corane gasped and jumped back, caught entirely off-guard by the sudden explosion of sound and motion. She felt her heart ramming against her rib cage as she reached out for the wall to steady herself. She couldn’t bring herself to blink as the humanoid appeared to look around frantically, violently yanked into consciousness, entirely out of place in time. Had she…?

All at once, the room or, it felt to Corane, the entirety of Vvardenfell froze as the brass humanoid turned to look at her -- as it turned and saw her. The silence of the room (but not the pounding of her heart) was drowned out by the atonal ringing raging in her ears and she found herself unable to blink. She was unable to look away from the golden light emanating from the Dwemer humanoid’s eyes as it slowly got to its feet.

It took a couple of steps toward her and stopped. Again, it looked around the room. Corane’s mind began to clear as the ringing in her ears started to die away and she was able to appreciate in the near silence of the room the damp hum of the humanoid’s steam-driven machinations. The humanoid again turned its gaze to her and took a tentative step toward her. She took a small step toward the humanoid and felt herself begin to speak. “I…”

The humanoid reached out to her and whispered, in a voice unnervingly organic, “Cora--” Before it could finish, the humanoid’s chest violently exploded, filling the workshop with steam and the acrid smell of dwarven oil.

She felt herself go numb, frozen as she felt some warm oil splatter across her face. She didn’t even blink as it dripped into her eyes and down her cheeks. It feels like blood, she thought vacantly. She remained motionless as the steam had settled, coating every surface of the room with a thin, oily film. Her eyes settled on the humanoid’s face, only moments ago so disturbingly, entirely alive… now unmistakably dead. She calmly walked over to her desk, picked up her notebook, and exited her workshop.

She strode out into the evening sunlight, leaving the door to the tower open behind her. She made her way to the small pier behind the tower and sat, staring blankly at the horizon. After a few moments, she pulled out her notebook and began to write…

A qualified failure; it would seem as though I…

She stopped writing as she began to shake, feeling rage and frustration begin to roil furiously inside her. “Dammit,” she said.

“DAMMIT!” She leapt to her feet and hurled her notebook into the sea. As soon as she had, she cursed under her breath and dove in after it.

Minutes later, after setting her notebook out to dry as best it might in the fading sunlight, she lay next to a communal ash garden near the pier, silently fingering the roughness of the prayer cloth next to the garden. As the sun slid beneath the horizon, Corane used a bit of flame magic to light the nearby candles.

It was another few hours before she processed a coherent thought.

You wouldn’t have wanted this for me.

She mulled over how she had spent the last ten years of her life, turning various quanta of time over and over in her head. So much, so MUCH… exploring Dwemer ruins, tracking down various scholars and fellow Dwemerologists, finding parts, finding schematics, finding tools, making it work, holding it together, making it work, trying to hold it together…

Failing… failing, failing, failing spectacularly. Failing, just barely…

    She stood.

”You wouldn’t have wanted this for me.”

She wiped her face and cursed quietly. Is this how he had lived his life?

She snuffed out the candles and stood in the near darkness. She couldn’t do this anymore… she had to break out.

As she picked up her still-damp notebook and walked inside, she thought about what it would mean to actually chase down happiness, to seek out some semblance of meaning.

She was suddenly struck by a memory, so vividly it was almost as though she had been cast back in time. The last truly selfless, MEANINGFUL thing she had done… that young Argonian. That terrified slave, running for his life and his freedom. He was so tired, wild-eyed and filthy, that strange netch hanging tightly on to his neck.

She hadn’t even had to think about it. “Please, take it. You need it, I know it,” as she gestured to her dwarven spider mount. He started to shake his head but she just started rattling off how to operate it. He started to cry a bit and it made her a little uncomfortable but, as he rode off into the wilds of Eastmarch, she felt a little less bereft, missing slightly less than she had been before.

She sighed and closed her eyes… she would leave in the morning. She needed to clean up the wreckage upstairs and maybe pack something to take with her, but she would leave in the morning.

It was nearly morning before her workshop was back in pristine, working order. The pieces of the automaton lay outside, near the ash garden, underneath a sheet of rough, watertight cloth. She could have kept the pieces inside, but it seemed as though that’s where they belonged. Everything in its right place.

She took some time to pack a few things to take with her: some tools she never left behind, her eye loupe, a notebook and writing implements, some books on the Dwemer, some gold, and some food.

Corane stepped out into the morning light and closed the door behind her. She started to walk around the small tower toward the ash garden before stopping herself.

No, she thought. It’s time to go.

With that, she began to walk.

    Flaws:

    1. Perfectionist: Dwemer mechanics demand perfection… as such, so does Corane. Sloppy technique in others can set her teeth on edge, but it’s her own failings that really rankle.

    2. Lost loved one: She left home to study with her mentor, a Dunmer named Ralos. The two had never met but she had reached out to him after reading some of his books on the Dwemer. Years of writing letters, sharing ideas, concepts, hopes, and dreams drew them close. Never caring much for the life her noble Altmer family planned out for her, she set off to Vvardenfell to meet him. Arriving at his tower on the eastern shores of Vvardenfell, she found him dead of unknown causes. Following his notes into obsession, she began to suspect it was by his own hand and guilt further fueled her desire to see his project through to the end.

    Name: Wilds-the-Tame

    Race: Argonian

    Gender: Male

    Age: 22

    Birth Sign: The Lover

Occupation: Odd jobs that suit his skills (tracking, manual labor, protection) if he needs gold; otherwise, he lives off the land

    Brief Biography:

He was born a slave. Life in Vvardenfell was unspeakable for an Argonian… but enough has been written about that already. All told, he was lucky. He was able to escape into the wilds of the island every now and then, where he was able to find peace. It was impossible to get away most days… but he could sometimes manage ten or twenty minutes. Once in a while, when a certain guard was on (and he was feeling particularly daring), he could manage an hour or two. Denied a community and a family in his everyday existence, he found both in the wilds. For as long as he could remember, he felt a strong bond with the flora and fauna of Vvardenfell; it didn’t seem to be a skill that he needed to develop as much as it was just a part of his being that he merely needed to express. It was this secret, inner life that lifted him up and, eventually, saved him.

He was in the forest, surrounded by four netch calves. He had been trying for months… it was very strange -- perhaps he was imagining it -- but it seemed as though the netches were also trying. He felt as though he was so close to being able to sense their thoughts. His brow was knit in thought when he heard a rustling sound to his left. He immediately jumped to his feet, terrified; the netches were unfazed.

An Argonian appeared from behind a tree. It was like time froze as they stared at each other; the young slave began to feel a tingling sensation make its way down his spine. Before he could say anything, the Argonian darted closer to him, so close that they were nearly touching. He slipped a bottle into the young slave’s hand and hissed: “You must drink this. Your entire existence has been leading up to this moment.”

And with that, he was gone. Had he not still been holding the bottle, the young slave might have been able to convince himself that he had imagined the entire thing. He was brought back to down to Nirn by one of the calves bumping placidly into his leg. He smiled as he shakily sat down again.

He tried to ignore the bottle as he attempted to connect once more with the netches, but it was impossible. He kept moving the bottle from hand to hand, tracing its contours with his fingers. Without realizing, he had already opened the bottle. A sharp, resinous scent exploded from the bottle -- had he not been already sitting, he might have been knocked off his feet. The smell was somehow both entirely familiar and entirely foreign at once. He suddenly understood -- the Argonian had been right. He must drink it.

The understanding hadn’t fully registered before he was drinking the contents of the bottle in their entirety.

It may as well have been a warhammer to the face. His body was out cold, but his brain and his soul were electric with life. Every color and every shape imaginable coalesced into a vision… a vision of a tree. He was about to pull himself to his feet only to find that he was already standing… well, rather… he was floating several inches off the ground, and he was being pulled slowly toward the tree. As he drew closer to the tree, any fear he had been feeling began to melt away. It was replaced with that strange tingling sensation he had felt pouring down his spine earlier… only, this time, it was filling his entire being. He was so close now. As he reached out to touch the tree, he began to weep. He felt so full of every emotion he had ever experienced, along with some that were entirely new to him. Just his fingers were about to brush the rough bark of the tree, he woke up in the forest.

It was daylight. He was terrified.

Struggling to his feet, he heard boots pounding the earth and angry voices calling his name in the distance. He began to shake and he turned to see the four netch calves floating near him. Then, in his head, as though the sounds had been deposited directly into his brain, he heard a quartet of thin, reedy voices.

    “Go.”

His heart felt as though it had stopped. He was paralyzed by fear. He couldn’t tear his eyes from the netches. Had they just spoken to him? As he started to respond, he “heard,” even louder…

    “RUN!!”

    And so he ran.

He ran until he reached the western coast of Vvardenfell. Without even thinking, he hurled himself into the sea and swam.

    ***

Pulling himself onto a beach near Windhelm, he rested his face on the cold rocks, his feet still in the icy water. He lay still for a very long time, feeling completely empty. Truly, he had nothing.

As he thought about the nothing he now had and everything horrible he had left behind, a strange sensation began to overtake him... one of the more mysterious sensations he’d felt back in the forest, one he wasn't sure he had felt before.

    It was joy.

Suddenly, he didn’t know if he was laughing or crying. He felt as though his heart was full to the point of exploding. As he lay on the beach, awash in seawater and emotion, he knew he had made it.

They had not broken him, they had made him stronger. He was experiencing no sorrow, no anger… only joy. He had made it.

The Hist had spoken to him and he had listened. The Hist had told him to go… and he had gone.

    He was free.

    Name: Érraël

    Race: Breton Vampire (The Order)

    Gender: Male

Age: 30, but became a vampire at 28.

    Birth Sign: The Apprentice

    Occupation: Healer, scholar, grifter

    Brief Biography:

Originally from Rivenspire, Érraël was forced into the Order of Arkay after his parents became convinced that their prayers to the deity saved the life of their deathly ill younger son, Ted. The teenaged Érraël went, grateful to still have his brother alive but not terribly excited at his future life in the Order.

He built on his natural aptitude for healing and studying, refusing to partake in the violent endeavors to detain and destroy the undead of Tamriel. After several years of study, he simply left one day and did not go back. He warded away feelings of guilt by telling himself Arkay had no role in his brother's seemingly miraculous recovery.

He had been planning on teaching to make ends meet, only to find that there was hardly any money at all in teaching. He knew he couldn't go back to the Order he had deserted or to his parents who might actually kill him for leaving. He also felt as though he couldn't heal others for monetary gain... what of those without money? Do they not deserve to live? The idea was morally abhorrent to him. He grew desperate... so he began to steal.

Grifting was easier than he'd anticipated. He also seemed to have a talent for persuasion... perhaps it was all those books he'd read. He was careful to only steal from those who could afford to be stolen from and assuaged his guilty conscience by healing the poor.

Then, one night, he happened upon an incredibly charming man at an inn in Evermore. After a few too many drinks, the night dissolved into a blur... until he woke up near a curious stone shrine near a cemetery south of Evermore, a vampire.

He spent a year wandering the wilds of Tamriel, weighed down by the conflicts raging within him. Finally, after countless nights of thought, crying, contemplative/navel-gazey entries in his journal, and maybe some more crying, he realized that he didn't NEED to know EXACTLY what he was going to do.

He just had to do good.

Looking down at himself, he realized that the first step was probably to steal some new clothes.
