  1. Hey everyone! I hope Nanowrimo is going well so far for all of you that are participating! My Nano journey has been a bit bumpy so far, but I'm staying on top of my word count goals and am proud of the progress I've made! my brain might totally be goo by the end of this though

@Morgani @Jae Onasi @Laysa For a long time, I have also been on the bandwagon of "all first drafts are terrible," and have, at times, hated some of my writing. But I read something today that really changed my opinion and I would like to share it with you all! It's from a tumblr post I saw, while I was scrolling through my dash for inspiration/prompts earlier.

    Quote
Your first draft is not terrible.

It is not any sort of insulting name you call it.

It is a baby.  A young, inexperienced baby that might throw up on your shirt and cause you to lose sleep at night but you love it all the same and will patiently feed it and tuck it into bed at night with a kiss no matter what happens.

You do not call a baby stupid or awful because they are new to the world and do not have the ability or knowledge to function on their own.  Instead, you nurture and teach them so they grow up smart and strong and capable.

Such it is with a first draft.  A first draft is not bad because it needs care and attention. Don’t insult it because it is newly written down with ideas that are not yet fully formed.  In fact, that is the reason why it is AMAZING.  It’s a DRAFT!  The FIRST one for the story!  LOOK at it!  It exists!  It is ALIVE!  And it is YOURS, this story you made.

So be proud of your first draft baby and, most importantly, be proud of yourself.

So here is a toast to making our baby drafts the best they can be and to helping them grow! Remember to treat yourself and your writing with kindness! ❤️

  2. Welcome @Morgani! I totally agree with you and @Helios on not feeling prepared enough for Nanowrimo! I've been sick almost all of October and that really killed any energy I had to put into prepping my writing project. However, there are plenty of youtube videos on "pantsing" Nanowrimo that I would be happy to share with you if it will help you feel more encouraged and motivated! Also, there is no shame in taking some time during the first couple days (or even later) to outline or structure what comes next in your writing project! The spirit of Nano is to get people feeling inspired and motivated to write, not just marathoning the 50k words! 😄

Also, I think it might be fun to have our own write-ins in discord or something where we could put on ClubROH for music and do sprints or just write together! Let me know if this is something any of you would be interested in and I will definitely schedule it! There are also lots of writers on youtube hosting live writing sessions too! You are not alone in this and remember that in RoH and beyond there are awesome writing communities here to support you! ❤️

Tagging everyone in the interest group! (No worries, if you're not doing Nanowrimo! You are still welcome to join us during any writing sessions or hangouts we have during this month and beyond!)

  3. Congrats on finishing your second novel @Jae Onasi! That's a major achievement! I also know the feeling of starting a fanfic and realizing it is a waaaay bigger project that you first expected! I have an ongoing Harry Potter fanfic that I write for some of my closest friends and it is currently just over 100k words! 😆

Also, you should totally start a writing group at your local library! Mine is currently getting renovated (a huge project that is supposed to take almost a year to finish), but once the building is back I'm hoping to start one at my library too!

  4. Hi everyone!

With November fast approaching, I wanted to start a discussion on NaNoWriMo and see who in RoH is thinking of participating! I think it would be awesome for us to band together and support and encourage one another to reach our word count goals! Even if you're not going for the big 50k, any writing done still counts toward completing your project!

So whether your goal is 10k, 50k, or something else, feel free to make an account on the NaNoWriMo website and add each other as writing buddies! You can share your NaNoWriMo profiles in this thread, as well as any tips you have for NaNoWriMo prep too!

You can find my profile HERE to add me as a writing buddy!

    Happy writing everyone!

  5. Both of those sound like awesome ideas @KalianVan! I also totally understand the feeling of having a dozen or so works-in-progress at once!

Congrats on starting your 7th novel @RhemaTom! A story about a bounty hunter sounds really fun to write!

While I have a handful of projects in the works, my main is a novel about a witch who travels back in time to rescue an old man who committed suicide about 20 years prior and could have saved the world from the plague it is currently facing. However, she ends up going waaaaaay too far back in time, and meets the "old man" when he's about her age. Shenanigans ensue. 😄

Dagger/Bow Warden DPS! I only just passed 400 CP, but I beat up the trial dummy at @PWiddy's house and got 34.9k!

Okay, so turns out I'm actually a dumb and used the wrong practice dummy for my parse! 😆

After working with PWiddy to better understand my build, CP allocation, and how rotations work, my actually current parse is...

    25.3k!

    Points Used: 21

    Points Available: 11

    Flaws

    - Short | Aeri is incredibly short for a Nord, coming in at just 4' 11''. (I literally made her character model the smallest it could be LOL) She was often picked on for it, and there was some speculation in her hometown that she possibly had Bosmer blood in her veins. This is likely false, and it's not like Aeri's parents are still around to answer that question for her.

    - Phobia (Severe): Fire | She is fine from a distance, but if it gets close to her or she can feel its heat, her anxiety spikes and she will likely spiral into a panic, if she can't get away from it. When making camp, she sleeps as far from the cooking fire as possible, using the excuse of "keeping watch" for the group, as a mean s of hiding her fear.

    - Phobia (Minor): Skeevers | The carrion-eating critters make her incredibly uncomfortable, but her fear of them is no where near as bad as her fear of fire. She uses them as arrow practice, if she ever spots one.

    - Nightmares | Aeri still dreams of the night her family home perished in a blaze of angry smoke and fire. Trying to save her younger brother, Aeri passed out from the smoke. She awoke later covered in ashes in the home of the local blacksmith, her wife tending to her wounds. She suffered some serious burns, but was otherwise alive. Her family and her home were not as lucky. Despite it being several years later, nightmares of this tragic event still haunt her.

    - Compulsion: Stealing | After years of wandering from town to town and barely scraping enough coin together to get by, Aeri has an uncontrollable urge to steal valuables from others. The first thing she does in a new place is spot all the exits and potential threats, but the SECOND thing she does is examine the room for valuables. She tries not to steal from those she likes/cares about though.

    - Can't Swim | Due to the teasing she received growing up, she spent more time wandering the tundra and forests than she did learning to swim, sail, and fish with other children her age. She's a bit sad that she never learned how, but is too embarrassed to ask someone to teach her.

    - Bounty | She has a bounty that is still following her from the first few burglaries she attempted when her career as a thief was at its beginning. She has avoided paying this debt by keeping away from Mournhold and its surrounding lands.

    Number of Flaws: 7

  9. @Droghan OMG how do I get my legacy items? I didn't play a whole bunch before the transition, but I might have some stuff on my old characters!

You'll just have to come and carry us @Carg😆

  10. @Droghan I usually play in the evenings around 5:30pm CDT until around 10:00pm CDT (I have work early in the morning on weekdays). Otherwise, pretty much any time on weekends!

  11. I would love to do some monster hunting with you @Droghan😄

I personally just started playing and have a lvl 15 Dragon faction character! I also started a cabal (guild) for Hopians to join, and I will be making a post about that shortly!

I also convinced @Tzunamis to join SWL last night! 😆
