  1. Hello everyone!

The interest poll I created when I signed on as officer shows a lot of interest in sPvP, and I would like to formally begin organizing efforts to enjoy this competitive game aspect more heavily. If you are interested in competing in sPvP, I ask that you reply below with an idea of when you would like to team up and whether you have a role in mind. We do not have to have 'exact days and times', but can change it up as scheduling requires.

With enough people we can hopefully create two groups. One for those who are more experienced and want to focus on/improve their roles and rotations, and another for those who might be new to the Mists or are here to simply enjoy the gameplay. We can certainly mix the groups up from time to time as well as circumstances and interest allows.

For myself, I am very interested in using my revenant and/or possibly an engineer in a group but I am not sure in what role yet. I am not that experienced so I'd probably be involved in the lower group unless a fill-in is needed for the advanced group.

  2. Some good advice in here for sure @khadian6829! While it can be a bit disappointing to play against botters, hackers, or other seemingly invincible players, I try to just remember to have fun.  I try not to let other players dictate my experiences (which seems weird considering the nature of an MMO, but it works for me lol).

As has been said, trying different classes is definitely worth it. You may find a class you don't expect to give you a 'a-hah!' moment. Also, don't be afraid to mix it up so you don't get burned out. Playing a different class once in a while, though there are learning curves, can be super enjoyable!

Again, I definitely think @QuietlyExisting and @Mortuus have given you a good way to look at things. And we can do some impromptu sPvP runs to try some stuff out whenever you'd like!

  3. Hello everyone!

Southsun Stalwart — Cheerful Aurene to brighten your day 🌸

Having recently stepped into this Officer role, and with the holidays soon to be upon us, PvP is in quite the weird predicament! I would like to discuss the holiday season and ask for your help as we prepare to put 2020 behind us and start 2021 fresh, eager, and ready to have some fun!

    HOLIDAY CHAOS!!!

Despite my excitement to start running around in the Mists with everyone (and hopefully WvW soon after), the holidays cause a bit of a scheduling conflict. The next three PvP event nights are as follows:

December 18th: PvP night 10PM EST. Some casual, fun and friendly sPvP

December 25th: CHRISTMAS - No Event

January 1st: NEW YEARS DAY - No Event

Unfortunately, with the events landing on holidays, it makes things a bit difficult for official events. I will for sure be out of town for Christmas Day visiting family, so I can't host an event. New Years Day may be the same, I am not sure yet. So the weekly routine will be disrupted for a little while longer while we navigate the holiday season. This would mean that PvP will be set to get going full time on January 8, 2021. I know it seems a long time away, but this will allow us to clear the holidays and get back on track. In the meantime, I certainly encourage anyone to post in guild chat or on discord and have some pvp fun whenever the mood takes you!

    Update on the PvP Team

Just like any department, an officer can only do so much alone. Previously, @QuietlyExisting and @Paradox have expertly helped keep PvP going. At present, however, both of these amazing Remnants are taking some well deserved breaks and thus will not be continuing on as assistants for the time being. I wish to offer my heartfelt appreciation for these two amazing people for their dedication and commitment to RoH these past several months. A huge *salute* to both of you! And may you enjoy a well deserved rest!

    PvP Needs YOU!!!

Now comes the part where I must ask for help! Assistants are the backbone of any division in RoH, and I am asking for assistants to help organize and bring about this new age in GW2 PvP fun. While there are certainly some expectations with being an RoH assistant (see below), my own personal expectations are to have fun, be relaxed, and have patience. All of us, including officers and assistants, are here to play the game and enjoy ourselves, and my goal is for the PvP team to exemplify this principle. While I am hopeful to be present for most of our events, I could also use some help on those days I cannot make it online. Many hands make small work, and working together and having each others' backs helps keep the game fun and stress-free for the whole team. We will start out as a collaborative council to drive PvP forward, and as we establish goals and potentially more events we can divide up the workload according to our abilities and schedules.

If you are willing and interested in applying for PvP Assistant, please fill out the following application and send it to me via PM here on the forums:

    Spoiler

    1. What are your general feelings regarding PvP in GW2?

    2. Do you enjoy WvW or sPvP more, and why?

    3. Are you willing to assist in running any event in the future?

    4. What ideas or opinions do you have regarding the PvP department as we start 2021?

    5. If a tree falls in the woods, but nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

For an overview of the Assistant Position responsibilities and restrictions, see this spoiler for a review of our Charter:

    Spoiler

    Description:

Assistants are Members, and they are not included in the leadership structure, but are chosen and removed by the Department Officer. You can be an assistant for multiple departments. A Department Officer may be an Assistant for another department.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist their Department Officer in overseeing and managing their respective department.
    • Carry out events in collaboration with fellow assistants and Department Officer.
    • Work in tandem with Department Officer to help with day-to-day activities.
    • Assistants may be given additional rights of access either in game or on the forums in order to perform their duties.

    Restrictions:

    • Must be at least a Member to be eligible for this position.

    Attainment

Department Officers may select up to a maximum of 4 (four) Assistants to aid him or her with the department. If a Department Officer requires more Assistants, he or she may submit a request to the Elder Council. The Department Officer will appoint and announce his or her own Assistants on the forums. A Department Officer must submit their request for additional assistant in-game permissions to their Division Commander, while additional forum permission requests must be submitted to the Elder Council.

The Elder Council may require Assistants sign a separate Code of Conduct when receiving additional forum privileges. Recruitment Assistants, due to elevated forum privileges, must not have an active disciplinary restriction.

    Removal

    • Department Officers reserve the right to remove an Assistant in their own department for any reason. That reason must be shared with the Assistant, and notice with reasoning must be sent to their Division Commander, forwarded to the Elder Council and High Elder.
    • Assistants can be removed immediately by their Department Officer or a higher rank if there is a clear violation of the Charter.
    • Assistants are tied to the Department Officer, not the department itself. After a Department Officer resigns and a new Department Officer assumes command, all previous assistants are automatically removed. Should they desire to continue, they may reapply to the new Department Officer.

I plan to leave the application window open through December 23rd or until two assistants are added to the team. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me here on the forums or in a DM on Discord. I will be happy to chat with you!

On Redemption Arcs and Rather Angry Fathers (Avatar: The Last Airbender) - Legend of a Writer

Finally, to promote the PvX factor of our community, I want to ensure our PvP desires are being met. While my immediate goal was to start some sPvP to get the department moving forward, I hear whispers in the wind that some people are itching for some WvW action. To officially gauge interest in the department so we can better meet the needs of you awesome Remnants, there is a small poll attached to this thread (see way above). I would ask everyone reading this to please take the time to fill it out honestly. If you have any suggestions, comments, or other ideas, please reply here and let your voice be heard. More ideas to consider is always a good thing!

Thank you all for taking the time to read this! I wish everyone a very Happy Holiday season, and look forward to a new year right around the corner! Be safe, have fun, and keep on adventuring!

  5. Hello there fellow Remnants! And Welcome!

    Guild Wars 2 Pre-Purchase | MASSACRE-ZONE

I'd like to thank @Trevuori for the opportunity I have to serve the GW2 division as PvP Officer. RoH is a wonderful place that we all enjoy, but it takes a certain amount of volunteer work to make everything function properly. To do a small part to keep the operation running smoothly is a huge honor, and I am very excited to be here!

One of the things I was a bit nervous about when talking to Trev and applying for the position is that admittedly I have been.... absent. Many of you may not know me very well, and some of you may not have any idea who I am as I stepped down from EC 6 months or so ago. I feel it appropriate to be transparent and admit I haven't been very visible or active lately. But please note that I have not been absent due to lack of interest or any kind of negative feeling. Rather, I simply took a bit of a break from RoH to pursue some quiet, peaceful time on some single-player/offline games that require little commitment. Tied to that thought is the increased demands of my job as a public school teacher due to COVID-19, which also caused me to seek different games than MMOs. But GW2 has been calling my name again for a couple of months now, and I've been itching to take up Tyria again. I am grateful for this opportunity to not only return, but to do what little I can for the PvP department.

With all that said, questions may exist as to what PvP is going to look like. Here are a couple of main points to help people understand what is going to happen with the PvP department.

    I. What will PvP look like under your leadership?

    Spoiler

First, I would like to announce that my vision for the PvP department is focused entirely on one word: FUN! While it is true PvP can be brutal at times, it is far more fun than people sometimes give it credit for. I am not interested in whether everyone attending has a PvP build, nor am I interested in holding any kind of requirement to participate. What this means is that I want EVERYONE to feel welcome to join PvP. As long as you come with an open mind, a good joke or two, and a willingness to die gloriously on the battlefield, we can have a lot of fun.

To put it another way, I am not interested in winning every match, or mopping the entire WvW map with our glorious combat prowess. We will win some for sure, but we will certainly lose a lot as well. Yet both scenarios can be tons of fun as long as we don't take it so seriously that it ruins our day. As long as we win and lose as friends and comrades, we will have loads of fun.

II. What if I want to play competitively?

    Spoiler

Officially as a department, our focus is to have fun. However I am well aware of the desire some people have to get competitive and win. If there are enough interested members, I fully support organizing team efforts for more competitive games. While I myself am not the most skilled and may not be ideal for participation yet, I will do everything I can to support and help in this endeavor.

My only caveat is that we remain inclusive and friendly. A desire to compete should never, ever come before the well being of our fellow members. As such, I strongly advocate for inclusion, even if it means slowing down and helping somebody get a build, items, a rotation, etc. Instead of being a group of competitive individuals, be 1 competitive team.

    III. What about events?

    Spoiler

As of right now, my understanding is that interest in PvP has waned over the past few months. My goal is to help revive interest by showing the fun side of PvP that is available to anybody and everybody. To start with this, we will be doing sPvP (Mists) events on Friday evenings at 10:00pm EST.  This will be the only weekly PvP event at present.

As the department grows and interest demands (whether that be sooner or later, is up to you!), we will try to accommodate interest with additional events (especially WvW if we get interested members). I am eager to see all of us together running around the Borderlands and having a heck of a good time.

IV. What can members do to help PvP grow?

    Spoiler

Teamwork makes the dream work, they say, and this holds true in most RoH activities. I am looking for assistants who can 'sit at the roundtable' with me to make this ship sail. If you are interested in sharing ideas and working with me to create a fun, friendly PvP environment, please shoot me a PM so we can talk about the possibility. The more heads we put together, the better ideas we will likely have for the department.

Apart from that, I encourage all members to give PvP a chance. Not with any intent to win at all costs (unless that is your cup of tea, see roman numeral II above), but to simply enjoy and have fun with guild mates. Some of my best gaming memories are from silly PvP matches where we laughed till we cried and had cramps, and I want to bring that atmosphere back for all of us. So attend the events and keep expectations put away. No pressure, no responsibilities, just enjoy and have fun!

If you have more questions, please ask away and I will add them with my answer to this post! If you have ideas, let me hear 'em! Thank you all for your warm welcome of me, and I look forward to all of the fun shenanigans we will get into!

So, I rolled a new character. And, it will be my new main. I like my loremaster, I really do. But, I just found out... why did no one tell me???... that if  I play a warrior-skald (dps) Minstrel that I can kill enemies with a bassoon!!!!!!!!! I'll probably never ever be welcome in a (non-RoH) group, but my goodness, I just cannot pass this up.

Togskravir, Warrior-Skald of the Lonely Mountain. His bassoon honks for thee! (apologies to actual bassoonists, it really is a perfectly lovely instrument in capable hands. He is using it in dissonant stance, after all!)

Oh it really is so much fun! My hobbit minstrel kills things by playing the bagpipes. 🤣  There are tons of other instruments you can choose too!

Here is a pic of it:

  8. In case anyone isn't following the latest LOTRO news, you can now attend Aragorn and Arwen's wedding in Minas Tirith! For lower level characters, upon logging in you get a quest option that provides a fast travel to the White City of Gondor, if you'd like to check it out. They said they have content for this event for all levels, so nobody is locked out of it.

  9. As some of you may (or may not) have heard, the actor Ian Holm, who portrayed Bilbo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, recently passed away at age 88.

I am a huge fan of the books, but I also love the movies, so certainly I felt a twinge of sadness and much respect for the actor, and gratitude for his part in the Lord of the Rings world.

But I just wanted to share a cool article I found this morning about how players all across Lotro paid tribute to the actor and his character in-game. Stuff like this is always really neat to me, and I know its happened in other games too (like Star Trek and WoW).

Anyways, here is the link. RIP Ian Holm!

Hi there! Our kinship is on the server Landroval. Looking forward to seeing you in game sometime!

A bit of a confession though, I've been playing all week, but this afternoon we are headed up the mountains for a mini vacation, so I won't be online over the weekend. Sorry!

If you are on before I get back and want to join the kinship, @Jae Onasi, @Daizey, and @Elisel can all invite you if they are available.

Hopefully we can get a few more people involved in the poll regarding playtimes and we'll organize a regular, but not too time-consuming, leveling event and we can play together! :)

  11. Only 4 people have filled out the survey so far. I encourage you to fill it out, even if you are not interested (there is an option for that). It will help to determine what level of activity we should set for this interest group.

Mostly late night EST, 11:00 p.m. to around 2:00 a.m. I can get on randomly at other times but am pretty inconsistent due to RL schedule.

I am inconsistent too, especially during summer break. But as a west coaster, those times are not too shabby for me. I play often from 11 to 1 EST time. We can possibly do a weekly, or every two week evening to run around and do stuff.

What would be people's general playtimes? I'm all for running around in Middle Earth a bit, but the bane of my MMO grouping life is my offpeak playtime. I think I have a character or two in the 30ish range; if not, I can catch one up.

I am hoping the poll above sheds some light on that topic. What time of offpeak playtimes do you have?

  14. Hello Everyone!

The Hobbit Fili And Kili GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Per some discussion in the notification thread, the idea of having some leveling buddies came up as interesting to many folks. A leveling group, as it were. We did something like this last year before I stepped up to the EC, as you can see here. @Amrithir, @Dalivandrian, and myself had a few sessions and for my part I thought it was a lot of fun I think we got to level 30ish if I remember right. This post is to ask whether we should officially start up again with a new/updated fellowship.

The ideas behind this concept is simple, and I leave the original plan for this here for those who want to see the original plan but don't want to go through the original post (tl:dr): Skip the spoilers and I will cut to the chase.

    Original Goals:

    Spoiler

    I. Find a way to have a realistic progression-style system for those interested in progressing through the game with guildies.

II. Host at least one monthly event where we can play as a group.

III. Include some kind of monthly end-game for those not interested in lower level content anymore.

IV. Avoid interfering with our other game pursuits (be it divisional or otherwise).

    Explanations:

    Spoiler

     I: Casual Progression Group

    Spoiler

I'd like to suggest a month-by-month progression system whereby we each individually progress a certain amount of levels each month. For example:

    -May: Levels 1-20 (Starter areas, Bree-land, Ered-Luin, Archet/Combe/Staddle)

-June: Levels 21-30 (Lone Lands, North Downs)

    -July: Levels 31-40 (Evindim, Trollshaws)

-August: Levels 41- 50 (Misty Mountains, Angmar, Eregion)

    -September: Levels 51- 58 (Moria)

-and so on and so forth...

The responsibility of gaining levels and progressing is individual, meaning at your own convenience. If you need/want assistance, using these forums you can reach out and hopefully many of us can answer the call and some of this progression can happen together as a group. The idea is to make it not such a commitment, but something we can do casually while still sort of progressing together.

    II: Monthly Group Event

    Spoiler

Near the end of each month I would propose we have a single night for LOTRO where we all take a break from whatever divisional game we have and enjoy our lotro game and guildies together. My thought is that this event would include whatever group content that months' level range would allow. For example:

    -May: Barrow Downs (Bree-Land)

    -June: Fornost (North Downs)

    -July: Garth Agarwen (Lone-Lands)

-August: The Tomb of Elendil (Evendim)

-September: Lots of Moria dungeons/instances to choose from.

If the interest is really there, I don't think it is asking too much for a single night a month to be dedicated to Lotro. I also recognize that no night will be perfect for everyone, but we can try! And if you miss the event, you won't be too far behind, and will be able to catch up over the following weeks to make the next one! None of the group content is 'mandatory' to level up and progress, it is just fun!

    III: Monthly end-game content event

    Spoiler

This is more of a theory, as I don't have any end-game characters like some of you do. But if anyone is interested I think it'd be great if some of those who are at or near end game wanted to get together and continue pushing. I know many of you left of around Mordor, but they are releasing a lot of things lately, all the way to Erebor and Dale. This would require the interest (as all of this would), but I must use a disclaimer and say I won't be much help here. (My highest level is 74).

    IV: Avoid interference

    Spoiler

Last thing I want to do is push anyone to feel obligated to play. I tried to come up with this simple idea with flexibility in mind. If you want to play Lotro with some Remnants, this may be a good way to do that! Sometimes all we need is a little motivation, hence I came up with this. If people want to play MORE often together, I am all for that and you can sign me up. If your busy in another game but like this idea, it doesn't take a whole month to gain these levels.

Also keep in mind that all of this is just a proposal. We, as a group, can hammer out the details and make any changes we deem necessary. Maybe 10 levels a month is too much? Lets shoot for 5 a month then. Or whatever works best for us as a whole.

The idea is to have a semi-regular time to log into lotro together and quest/level through the game without causing it to be a huge commitment or time sink. I also don't want anyone to feel obligated to play, this is just for fun for those who like the game and want to keep their toes in it. If we can meet once a month, or once a week, or whatever we decide and play our characters together, it'd be a fun way for the more active people to have guildies to play with, and for the less active people to progress through the game. We can be rather organized (like the original plan) or we can be a little more spontaneous, if people prefer that.

So I have added a poll to this thread for you to give your thoughts. If there are other suggestions or ideas, please let me know! I'm very open to doing whatever works for everyone.

    Tagging Notification List:

Do you not get access to mounted combat with the quests? I can't imagine doing Rohan quests without MC. Also, epic battles are a large amount of content and are fun initially, but they can get veeeeery repetitive. I have no idea if they're still useful for gearing, but I ended up buying Battle points from the cash shop on my mains just to avoid the grind for a couple of my class trait points. That was with me running well over a hundred Battles. Perhaps they're not as grindy now, but less grind doesn't seem to be the LOTRO way unfortunately.

I don't know if/how to get mounted combat yet, I have never stepped foot in Rohan just yet. My highest level is 75 and parked just outside of it.

I'm also not sure if there is anything else I'd need or be missing out on. A lot depends on whether we have interested players in lotro or not. I guess the expansions of instances and raids too? But I'm not sure whether they would be worth it since not many of us play.

Most likely I'll buy the quest packs at 99 lp each, it is so darn cheap! I can always buy the expansions later if I want the extra content, its not like I am overspending that much with the current sale I suppose.

  16. The expansion quests are now on sale for 99 lotro points each if anyone is interested.

I am torn between spending the few LP to get the quests, or waiting and buying the whole expansions. I only need Rohan, and I kind of want the big battles and mounted combat stuff.

    *sigh*

  17. I'd be happy to level up with anyone if we can work out a time. I'm always game for grouping. I have characters from level 1 to level 70 of many ranges. And the free quest packs I posted about in another thread will make leveling so much easier for anyone who didn't have certain content.

@Annamika, @step7012 do you want on the notification list then? It will be used not only for events, but for any lotro announcements in the future that players might be interested in (like sales, in-game events, etc).

  18. If you are like me and fairly casual, you may not have dropped a lot of money on the game. For those who don't own the quest packs, here is the message I got on social media from LOTRO/SSG today:

"Our free Coupon Code to get quest packs for your account is now available! The code is: LOTROFREEQUESTS, 1/Account, available to redeem through August 31st, 2020. Read more here: LOTRO.com/friendsforever. "

The list of all the content they are giving away is in the link, it is quite lengthy! I certainly added some areas to my game I didn't have before. Enjoy!

  19. Hello Everyone!

I know many of you may not have LOTRO on your radar right now, and that is okay! We all have other games we are more invested in at the moment. But I wanted to give an update on things here in the interest group now that my responsibilities on the EC have come to an end.

First, by way of information, LOTRO is my primary MMO right now. While it is summer and I am not working (I am a teacher) I may have inconsistent hours as I tackle home-improvement projects, but I will be logging in regularly on Landroval for those interested in leveling some characters with some company. I believe there are a few people on Brandywine playing together from time to time as well.  Anor (the legendary server) is also available for VIPs and there are a couple of people there last I heard.

For myself, I plan to attempt making the RoH kinship on Landroval a bit more stable and active, including potentially recruiting from in-game if possible. This is based off of the interest a few of you expressed in this thread. I would love and appreciate any help in that regard if any of you find yourselves uninterested in our division games at the moment and have a mind to focus on Middle Earth with me. I certainly will not push anyone to participate more than they want to, though.

As for the interest group, we have a crafting forum for anyone who may need anything, and we have a PvE forum for events and such. IF we have multiple people on 2 servers we can certainly reorganize this so each server can have a dedicated thread. This is not to segregate for anything negative, but it would help keep down confusion of who is doing what on which server. If only one server becomes the 'main' one, we can keep as is and improve it as need arises.

By way of information, I also want to let you know I have purged the membership of the interest group to try and keep it as accurate as possible. Since we are not bound by official RoH protocol, I simply purged those who are not members of the community anymore or who were only applicants but never went through the trial process. I figured using the 'white tags' of that nature could be an easy and fair way to keep things updated. If there is a former member who is active on the forums and wants to continue to play with us then I believe we can allow that, but from what I saw the people I purged had not logged in for a very long time.

If anyone has ideas or anything they would like to see happen regarding LOTRO, feel free to speak up. The more the merrier!
